The Eternal Frustration

Knowing what to do

Sustainable Action

Doing what you know

Understanding the Gap ADHD coaching works directly on the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it.
The gap

ADHD is a performance problem, not a lack of willpower.

For most adults with ADHD, there is a consistent, frustrating disconnect between what they intend to do and what actually happens. It has nothing to do with intelligence or effort.

Complex problems can feel easier than simple ones.

Complex problems, abstract thinking, working under pressure: these can come easily.

Performance gap

But a straightforward admin task can sit untouched for weeks.

Ideas are rarely the problem.

For many people with ADHD, generating ideas is not the issue.

Performance gap

But following one through consistently is where things break down.

Deadlines get things moving.

When the pressure is real and the stakes are high, things tend to get done.

Performance gap

But it is not a reliable way to work, and it takes a toll.

Engagement is not always a choice.

When something genuinely captures your attention, focus can be total and sustained.

Performance gap

But it cannot be switched on for everything else.

Intentions are not the problem.

You have plans, intentions, and a clear enough sense of what should be happening.

Performance gap

But knowing and doing are two separate problems.

It has worked before.

There have been periods where things clicked, sometimes significantly.

Performance gap

But replicating it is rarely straightforward.

ADHD Coaching can help.

The goal is not to work harder. It is to understand why the gap exists and close it in a way that holds up day to day.

Meet Gary

I'm Gary Hammond. I have ADHD, and it took me a decade after my diagnosis to find support that actually worked.

Gary Hammond is a CPD-certified ADHD coach, member of the ADHD Coaches Organisation (ACO) and Association for Coaching, with additional advanced ADHD-specific training.

Originally from Dublin and now based in Barcelona, I spent over 20 years in technology as a founder, Head of Product, and Managing Director before retraining as a certified ADHD coach. Diagnosed in 2013, I managed reasonably well at first, then struggled for much of the following decade. It was not until I got proper support in 2023, including coaching, that things actually changed. That is what led to retraining, and now I work with adults who are trying to do the same. I'm a member of the ADHD Coaches Organisation and CHADD. I work with adults one-to-one and with organisations that want to support their neurodivergent employees in a way that actually makes a difference.

The methodology

Working at the Points of Performance.

ADHD is not a knowledge problem. It is a performance problem. It is the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it.

ADHD coaching works on that gap directly. Understanding how your attention and executive function work in practice, and building approaches around that, rather than relying on pressure or deadlines to get things done.

Awareness

Understanding how your specific ADHD shows up.

Action

Co-creating strategies that fit your life, not a textbook.

Accountability

Supportive structures to keep you on track.

Benefits

What changes when you understand your ADHD

Three things people notice when they start to understand their ADHD properly.

You start to understand what is actually going on

Most people with ADHD have spent years being told or feeling they are not trying hard enough. Coaching replaces that narrative with an accurate one, so you can stop fighting yourself and start working from an accurate picture of what is actually happening.

You build strategies that hold up in real life

The strategies that work for most people often do not work for ADHD. Coaching figures out what does, based on how you specifically operate.

The gap between intention and action gets smaller

That is the core problem for most people with ADHD. Coaching does not eliminate it, but it gives you the understanding and the tools to close it consistently, without needing a crisis to get started.
